Best Candidates
Your dental alignment will be influenced by several factors: sucking your thumb as a child, genetics, missing one or several teeth, or a traumatic injury to your lower face. Misaligned teeth often leads to other oral health problems, like a bad bite (dental malocclusion), ground-down enamel, difficulty chewing and speaking, plus jaw pain and toothaches. If your MINT dentist sees early signs of one of these issues at your annual examination, we might suggest Invisalign®.
Orthodontic treatments like Invisalign® are wonderful for teens and adults who would like to improve their smile but without the appearance and hassle of traditional orthodontics. Although your aligners should be in at least 20 hours a day, Invisalign® can be removed in order to eat and brush your teeth, plus for playing sports and special events. More discreet than traditional braces, most people won't know that you're wearing your aligners.
What to Expect
After your consultation, your first Invisalign® trays will be made from the digital x-rays taken by your MINT dentistry team. When they are ready, you will come back to get your first aligners and instructions from your dentist. You should to use your aligners the majority of the day for the process to work effectively, with the goal of taking them out only to eat and brush your teeth. In time, you should switch to your second set of aligners so they can continue to shift your bite closer to their final alignment. You should plan to attend appointments as recommend by your dentist so we can check your progress and get more digital x-rays taken, which will be used to make your next set of aligners. How long you will need to wear your aligners will depend on your starting bite and your goals. Most patients use Invisalign® for around 1 – 2 years.
Treatment Aftercare
When you are done with your last set of Invisalign® trays, it is crucial to make sure your teeth stay in their new position. Invisalign® Vivera® retainers help to hold your teeth in place using the same comfortable material as your aligner trays. Your retainer will be made custom at the Invisalign® dental lab from digital x-rays taken after your teeth are in the right position. Your dentist will explain when to use your retainer and care instructions after it's shipped to our office. We will continuously check your bite and alignment during your dental examinations in case there is any movement.
The MINT Commitment
Typically, a portion of your costs for an Invisalign® treatment is paid if you are using dental insurance. We will get more information on your specific policy coverage and then determine your remaining bill. We take most payments to cover your out-of-pocket expenses or if you aren't using insurance. At your consultation, we will estimate your treatment costs and how we can help make your treatment fit your budget with low-interest medical financing and flexible payment plans.
